Role of Risk Factors among Patients with Breast Cancer Disease

Abstract

Background: The breast cancer is the second major cause of cancer deaths among women. There is a various steps process involving different cell types for development of this disease and its prevention remains challenging in the world. Early diagnosis of this disease is one of the preferable approaches to prevent it. Methods: This study is a descriptive study that included 102 women from different age groups, the majority of females that enrolled in this study their age range from (40-49) years by using a detailed questionnaire containing many items related to the research that were distributed to patients attended to the Early detection of breast disease clinic at Imam Al-Hussein Medical City Hospital. Results: The results of this study shown the fact of increasing the incidence of breast cancer with age ranged from (40-49) years old. Other risk factor is obesity which was found in nearly half of the patients, the most approved diet in this study was mixed, and majority of the patients had vitamin D deficiency. According to the hereditary risk factor there were 22 females (21.6%) with positive family history of breast cancer. Minority of patients had diabetes , previous radiation exposure, previous trauma and previous history of breast cancer. Most of them was physically active with moderate socioeconomic state, about (5.9%) experienced late age at menopause, (84.3%) have children with (45.1%) of them had abortions. One third of them took oral contraceptives and (12.7%) took ovulation stimulating drugs and (1%) took post menopausal hormonal therapy. The majority of females in this study were active breast feeding (72.5%). The most complain in these patients was breast pain (54.9%) and there was a near similar ratio between right side and left side breast cancer with left predominant. Conclusions: According to this study many risk factors are found to be associated with the development of breast cancer.
