The main sites of the oropharynx consist of the posterior and lateral pharyngeal wall, faucial arches, tonsillar fossa, soft palate, and base of tongue. Nasopharynx begins at the posterior choana and slopes downward along the airway to the level of the free border of the uvula. Hypopharynx (laryngopharynx) extends superiorly with the oropharynx and inferiorly with the cervical oesophagus. It is divided into the pyriform sinus, posterior pharyngeal wall, and post-cricoid region.
