Abstract

Depletion of circulating T-cell as a result of HIV infection invariably leads to increased susceptibility to opportunistic intestinal protozoan parasites. In addition, intestinal parasitic infestations are basic health problems prevalent in tropical developing countries. Reports indicated that diarrhea occurred in 30-60% of HIV/AIDS patients in developed countries and in about 90% of HIV/AIDS patients in Africa. A study was carried out in 100 HIV/AIDS seropositive cases. The patients included in the present study were admitted to various wards in Hospital. Verbal consent was taken from the HIV seropositive patients included in the study. HIV/AIDS patients of different age groups were included in the study with different immune status. Percentage of cryptosporidium parvum in chronic diarrhoea was found to be 27.02%, Isospora belli was 27.02%, cyclospora was 8.10%, Entamoeba histolytica and G. lamblia was found to be 8.10% whereas Ancylostoma duodenale was 10.81%.
