Abstract

The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), socalled cruciate-retaining (CR), or to substitute for it, so-called posterior stabilized (PS), continues to engage orthopaedists. The many reasons for retaining the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) during total knee replacement (TKR) include improved stability, reduced shear stresses at the fixation interface, improved proprioception, and more efficient gait patterns during level walking and stair climbing;
