Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Urinary tract infections are a common and potentially serious bacterial infection of childhood. About 5-8% of children under 2 years of age with fever without defined focus have a UTI. Prevalence rates of a first-time symptomatic UTI are highest in both male and female infants during the first 12 months of life, with a marked reduction after this period. Antibiotic therapy must be guided by local guidelines due to increasing antibiotic resistance. AIM & OBJECTIVE: To identify the etiological agents of paediatric UTI and study their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern.
