Knowledge Of Hand Hygiene Among Healthcare Workers In Tertiary Health Care Centre Of Telangana

Abstract

Background:- Hand hygiene the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health care-associated infections. Hand hygiene, which means cleaning our hands by washing with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and prevent spreading germs to others. Most of the healthcare associated infections are preventable through good had hygiene practices. Methods: - This was questionnaire based cross sectional study. Questionnaire used in this study was who hand hygiene questionnaire modified in 2009. Total knowledge score was calculated. Knoweldge score was classified as good, moderate and poor. Data analysis was done by percentages and proportions. Results: - In our study most of the health care workers had moderate knoweledge about hand hygiene. Overall 68%,64%,55% of questions were correctly answered by doctors, nurses, residents respectively. Conclusion: - Most of the health care workers had moderate knoweledge about hand hygiene. In our study 66%, 70%, 68 % of doctors, nurses, residents had received training of hand hygiene.
