Abstract

Background:Partograph is a graphic record of progress of labour and fetal condition during labour. The main parameter for recording of progress of labour is the rate of cervical dilatation. Aims and objectives: To study the labour characteristics of nulliparous using WHO modified partograph in terms of duration of labour, mode of delivery, neonatal outcome. Materials and Methods: This study involved a detailed workup of 100 consecutive consenting singleton pregnant women at term with vertex presentation were included. We monitor half hourly Fetal heart rate, Uterine contractions, Pulse rate and four hourly Blood pressure and cervical dilatation and descent. Observation and discussion: The study divided the subjects into three groups. Group A: Subjects who delivered before partograph touched the alert line. Group B: Subjects who delivered when partograph lies between alert and action line.Group C: Subjects who delivered after the action line was crossed. Subjects in group A had mean duration of 1st stage of labour was 7.52 hours as compared to group B and C , it was 9.26 hours. While LSCS rate in group A was 4.16% as compared to in Group C it was 10.71%. Subjects who crossed the action line had more NICU admissions as compared to subjects who delivered before touched to alert line. As in Partograph, when progress of labour cross the alert line and then action line, the duration of labour, NICU admissions, LSCS rates and maternal complications was increasing.
