Abstract

Evaluation of bioactive compounds from the red seaweed Gracillaria corticata and Solieria robusta from Narara Island, Gujarat coast, Western India. Methods: Both species were extracted with 100% ethanol using Soxhlet apparatus. Characterization of crude extracts such as UV, FTIR, HPLC and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis was performed to identify bioactive compounds present in both types of crude ethanol extracts. Results: Gas chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis of both extracts revealed the presence of steroids, fatty acid and ester compounds. This study demonstrated the existence of bioactive compounds which are proved antibacterials which lead to formulate antibiotics against fish bacterial pathogens
