Assessment of quality of life after Surgery in Chronic Pancreatitis

Abstract

Background:The objective of the study was to asses the outcome after surgery in chronic calcific pancreatitis. Methods:Prospective observational study, data from patients who underwent surgery for chronic pancreatitis in Narayana Medical College and Hospital,Nellore from February 2021 to July 2022 and a minimun follow up to june 2022, who completed minimun follow up of 12 months Results:Total 36 patients who underwent surgery were followed up at 6 month and 12 months post operatively Patients with tropical pancreatitis experience poor QOL (35.59 ±1.79) compared with the general population (94.46 ±0.44). Post-operative QOL scores (76.66 ± 3.85) were better than the pre-operative scores (35.59 ±1.79) at 12-month post-surgery follow-up. The VAS score for pain improved at 12 months post-surgery (1.22 ± 1.39vs. 7.27±0.9). In one patient, there was new onset Diabetes mellitus .8 patients had steatorrhea preoperatively, which was increased 14 patients postoperatively.
