An evaluation of the challenges during laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Iraqi patients.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was for evaluation of the challenges during laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Iraqi patients. All 92 patients who were hospitalized for LC between 2020 and 2022 were assessed preoperatively, underwent LC, and were monitored postoperatively as part of a cross-sectional research to investigate the variables related with challenging LC. All patients with LC had surgery by experienced senior surgeons, who were assisted with skilled resident physicians. The parameters of a pre-operative scoring system were derived using the history, clinical examination, and research results. The current results showed that age group between (22-40 years) were more affected, the BMI was 23-30 and that 55% have difficulty score, and there was no difference between operation difficulty. The cause of admission results showed that 63% of patients were admitted due to Cholecystitis. According to the gender, only BMI and operation difficulty showed significant differences between male and female. The results showed that ALP were less than 144 IU/L in 74% of patients, with WBC count less than 11000 in 69.6% of patients. The results of sonography showed that 68.5% of patients were showed thin gall bladder wall and 90.2% of patients were without Pericholecystic collection, also there were 92.4% of patients were with impacted stone.
