Abstract

Background: The femur neck shaft angle is formed between the long axis of the shaft and the femoral neck. This is known to vary in different age groups, physique, environment, habits and even the race and genetic makeup of the person. One important thing that can be mentioned in here is the movement of the hip joint is also dictated up to some extent by this angle. This angle is also quiet unique in identification when used in the Department of forensic medicine. This study puts in an effort to find the neck shaft angle in the local population of west coast of Karnataka. Aims and Objectives: To study the neck shaft angle in femur in the west coast population of Karnataka. Materials and Methods: Three hundred bones were used for this study that was available in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Anatomy and also some were leased from the Medical Students. Results: There is no significant difference between the neck shaft angle of the two sides. Conclusion: The measurements have been successfully recorded in the present population.
