Abstract This study compared rigid internal fixation (RF) to standard therapy (closed or open reduction with 3 weeks of maxillomandibular fixation) for the treatment of mandibular fractures using a prospective strategy. 130 fractures in 90 individuals underwent evaluation and treatment. Despite a bias in the distribution of research factors favoring the usual therapy, there was no statistically significant difference in the treatment outcomes between the two groups.
