Abstract

Background: The amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus serves several roles during pregnancy. Importance as indicator of fetal status is a relatively recent development and has become an integral part of fetal evaluation. Oligohydramnios is diagnosed when ultrasonographically the AFI is ≤5cm/ 5 th centile. It affects 3-5% of pregnancies.2 Polyhydramnios is diagnosed when the amniotic fluid index is above 25cm/ 95th percentile.
