Gingival recession has anatomical, physiologic, or pathological causative factors apart from a 17% lack of etiology. Although surgical techniques are available in plenty for the root coverage procedures, choice of technique often influences successful outcome. Buccal pad of fat for root coverage (a specialized adipose and well-vascularized tissue) is a nuovo not yet popular technique for regenerative procedures as root coverage in severe recession defects, especially in the maxillary posterior region of the oral cavity. In this case report root coverage procedure using pedicled buccal pad of fat in Miller’s Class III recession on the maxillary posterior teeth is performed
Comparing of the patient related esthetic outcome Using Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) membrane with Coronally Advanced Flap With and Without Vertical Releasing Incisions (the envelope-type flap and the flap with VRIs) in Miller Class I and II Gingival recession defects: A Study Protocol
European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine,
2020, Volume 7, Issue 2, Pages 2052-2059
Abstract: Aim: To compare the patient related esthetic outcome Using Platelet rich fibrin
(PRF) membrane with Coronally Advanced Flap With and Without Vertical Releasing
Incisions (the envelope-type flap and the flap with VRIs) in Miller Class I and II Gingival
recession defects
Material and Methods- 14 defects will be randomly divided into test and control group
consisting of 7 defects in each. Test group will be treated by PRF + CAF without VRI
group and control group will be treated by PRF +CAF with VRI.Primary outcome will be
gain in root coverage and secondary outcome will be Plaque index (PI), Papillary bleeding
index (PBI), probing pocket depth (PPD), relative attachment level (RAL), relative gingival
margin level (RGML), recession depth (RD), gingival thickness (GT) and width of
keratinized gingiva (WKG). Clinical evaluation will be performed at 3 & 6 months of
therapy.
Result-Student’s paired t-test will be utilized to analyze data from the day of surgery to six
months. A comparison of both groups at baseline and six months will be achieved by
student’s unpaired t-test. Comparison of the PI and PBI at baseline & six months will be
performed by student’s paired t-test. When all the parameters will be compared at 6 months
post-operatively to baseline data, both the treatment group (test and control) will show
significant gain in root coverage, RAL gain, PPD reduction, decrease in reduction depth,
increase in GT and WKG.No significant difference will be found in the two groups for
reduction of recession and CAL and satisfaction of patient with regards to esthetics.
Higher chances of complete root coverage and increase WKG will be seen in control
group.
Conclusion- The combination of PRF and CAF without VRI will be effective in the
treatment of gingival recession. PRF in combination with CAF without VRI will have
significant clinical outcome as compared to GTR membrane and CAF with VRI.
Comparative Evaluation Of Effectiveness Of Pinhole Surgical Technique With Coronally Advanced Flap For The Treatment Of Gingival Recession Defects In Humans- A Clinical Study
European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine,
2020, Volume 7, Issue 7, Pages 2011-2017
Introduction : Gingival recession is seen commonly in the overall population and often is an indication.to the patient to pursue treatment for denuded roots due to hypersensitivity and/ to improve aesthetics. It is a constantly developing and growing research field. In order to avoid progress of recession. A surgical procedure that deal with all the GR defects in a single visit, that is easy, practical, operator friendly, not requiring a second surgical site, time efficient, and most significantly, meet up the patient’s esthetic concerns is a desirable option. Aim/ Objectives : To evaluate the effectiveness Of Pinhole Surgical Technique with Coronally Advanced Flap for the treatment of gingival recession defects for root coverage (RC), improvement in relative attachment level (RAL), increase in width of keratinized gingiva (WKG) and gingival thickness. Methodology : 20 healthy patients with class I or class II recession will be assigned randomly to either pinhole surgical technique or coronally advanced flap. Follow up of 1, 3 and 6 months will be done. Results: At 6 months improvement in RC, RAL and the amount of WKG. Along with improvement in gingival thickness will also be seen. Plaque index and Bleeding index will be reduced at 6 months. Conclusion : In this study we will try to achieve practicability of a novel invasive approach of pinhole technique to root exposure in Class I or II type of GR defects and to compare this technique with CAF with PRF procedure for root coverage.
ASSOCIATION OF TRAUMA FROM OCCLUSION AND GINGIVAL RECESSION IN MANDIBULAR ANTERIOR TEETH
European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine,
2020, Volume 7, Issue 1, Pages 292-298
Background: Trauma from occlusion has been defined as injury to the periodontium resulting from occlusal forces that exceeds the reparative capacity of the attachment apparatus. It refers to tissue injury due to distorted occlusion. Gingival recession is the exposure of root surfaces due to apical migration of the gingival tissue margins.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of trauma from occlusion with gingival recession in mandibular anterior teeth.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2019 to April 2020 using the patient records from the Department of Periodontics, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai. 200 patients with trauma from occlusion were recruited. Presence or absence of gingival recession in mandibular anteriors were studied. Data was tabulated in excel and statistically analysed.
Results: Among 200 patients with trauma from occlusion, 89 patients had gingival recession in relation to mandibular anteriors. There was no significant association between trauma from occlusion and gingival recession in mandibular anterior teeth (chi-square test; p= 0.120, not significant).
Conclusion: The present study showed no significant association between trauma from occlusion and gingival recession in mandibular anterior teeth.
A RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF PREFERRED CHOICE OF TREATMENT FOR GINGIVAL RECESSION COVERAGE
European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine,
2020, Volume 7, Issue 1, Pages 1597-1604
Periodontal plastic surgeries have gained popularity in recent years and tremendous advancements and documentations have been published using various allogeneic materials , allogeneic grafts, and guided tissue regeneration. This study aims to find out the frequency of the techniques used for the recession coverage procedure in private dental college, chennai. This was a single university based study where retrospective analysis was carried out using data collected from digital patient data recording software. More inclination for using grafts over flap techniques was found amongst the screened individuals. 81.3% procedures performed in the study population had a preference for autogenic grafting over flap for recession coverage procedure. The percentage of connective tissue graft (CTG) procedures was 54.9%. Within the limits of the study it could be concluded that surgeons had inclinations towards using grafting procedures over flap techniques as the outcomes were predictable in grafting procedures.
GINGIVAL RECESSION IN DISIMPACTED CANINES - A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY
European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine,
2020, Volume 7, Issue 1, Pages 2095-2103
Multidisciplinary management is essential when the canine fails to erupt on time. This requires combined surgical and orthodontic intervention. Good periodontal status is necessary for the positive outcome of treatment. Hence the objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence of gingival recession in disimpacted canines. A retrospective study was conducted. Data collection was done through reviewing 86000 patients who had visited a hospital in Chennai from June(2019) to March(2020). A total of 6 patients who had undergone disimpaction of canine were evaluated. Data such as age, gender, site of impaction, presence of gingival recession were noted. The data was analysed statistically through IBM SPSS software. The study group belonged to the age group ranging 13-21. Disimpaction was performed higher among males(66.6%) compared to females. Among the samples, about 57.14% of canines were palatally impacted. No gingival recession was seen in the study sample. The incidence of gingival recession in the disimpacted canines was not statistically significant and did not reach clinical significance due to very less sample size.
