A common infectious agent in childhood is group A streptococcus (GAS) which is responsible
for a wide range of clinical diseases in humans. These diseases are classified into toxin
mediated, superficial, invasive and post-infectious diseases. Auto-immune post- infectious
sequelae of GAS, acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis and acute rheumatic fever are
responsible for most of related mortality and morbidity.
