Turmeric(Curcuma logna) is widely cultivated in India and its neighbouring countries and is
also used in the household of of the Indian sub continent as a spice. It has been found
documented that turmeric has been used as a conventional medicine to cure numerous disease
such as cold and cough, diabetes, hepatic disorder etc. Now the researchers from all over the
world have done numerous work to discover the therapeutic benefits of turmeric and its
various extracts. Curcumin being its prime chemical compound has various therapeutic
activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimutagenic, antidiabetic,
antibacterial, hepatoprotective, expectorant and anticancerous activity. The main motive of
this article is give an over view on the the various pharmacological activities of turmeric.

Background:Oral Lichen Planus is a chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease affecting
the oral cavity, skin and nails. The present study compared curcumin alone and curcumin
with prednisone in management of cases of oral lichen planus.
Materials & Methods:The present study was conducted on 68 patients diagnosed clinically and
histologically as oral lichen planus which were divided randomly into 2 groups of 34 each. In
group I patients, Curenext oral gel was prescribed for topical application for 15 minutes, three
times a day. In group II patients, a paste of crushed tablet of prednisone and curenext oral gel
was prescribed for 15 minutes, three times a day. All patients were recalled after 10 days for
1st follow up and 20 days later for 2nd follow up and reticulation, erosion and pain on VAS
were recorded.
Results: The mean reticulation score at baseline in group I was 1.82, in group II was 1.80, on
10th day in group I was 1.60 and in group II was 1.14 and on 20th day in group I was 0.86 and
in group II was 1.42. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). The mean erosion score at
baseline in group I was 2.32, in group II was 2.30, on 10th day in group I was 1.95 and in
group II was 1.45 and on 20th day in group I was 0.82 and in group II was 0.10. The
difference was significant (P< 0.05). The mean VAS score at baseline in group I was 4.10, in
group II was 3.94, on 10th day in group I was 3.24 and in group II was 1.92 and on 20th day in
group I was 1.26 and in group II was 0.06. The difference was significant (P< 0.05).
Conclusion:Authors found that combination of curcumin and prednisone proved to be
effective as compared to curcumin alone in patients of oral lichen planus

Role of Polyphenolic Compounds in Management of Oxidative Stress Associated With Glaucoma

European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine, 2020, Volume 7, Issue 9, Pages 2064-2084

Glaucoma is a first rank common cause of irreversible vision loss. It is also
recognized as a neurodegenerative disease which progress with age, results in optic
neuropathy. The exact cause of glaucoma remains unclear although oxidative stress
considered as one of the reasons for cell death in the retinal ganglion cell and retinal
pigment epithelium. Oxidative stress could result after imbalance between formation and
utilization of reactive oxygen species. Current pharmacotherapy of glaucoma includes
lowering down of elevated level of IOP, which is not sufficient enough to retard
irreversible vision loss in some instances. Hence, alternative neuroprotective therapy is
warranted. Polyphenolic compounds possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and
also show the neuroprotective effect in an experimental model. Amongst the natural
polyphenolic compounds resveratrol, curcumin, rutin, quercetin, myricetin have been
studied and showed potential as neuroprotection against cell apoptosis. Moreover, the extra
supplement of a polyphenolic compound may also improve antioxidant status, which was
underestimated in glaucoma disorder. Despite the potential, the polyphenolic compounds
yet to explore for clinical use in ocular disorder. Hence it is an excellent opportunity for
the future researcher to transform these substances from lab to clinic as neuroprotectants
in glaucoma.

European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine, 2020, Volume 7, Issue 10, Pages 1696-1707

From December 2019 until December 11, 2020, SARS-Cov-2 has cause 1,576,516 deaths to start in Wuhan, China, to 220 countries worldwide. In most people who have good immunity, the disease’s symptoms disease is mild. However, in people with comorbidities and older people, it can develop into pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and many organ disorders. This review aims to reveal the herbal plants that potentials are dealing with and complementary therapy because no specific drug exists for the Covid -19. Based on kinds of literature showed that some herbs that have antiviral activity are the potential to be anti-SARS-Cov-2 diseases (Covid-19), especially curcumin that exists in 6,34% of traditional medicine formulas in Indonesia. Herbal products Stimuno® (Phyllantus niruri herb extract), New Divens®(Phyllantus niruri herb extract, Nigella sativa cement extract), Vipalbumin Plus® (Ophiocephalus striatus extract), and Lianhua Qingwen®(a combination of 13 herbs) that clinically proven to Helps improve the immune system. The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NA-DFC) recently assisting 13 herbal drug research studies for covid-19 agents as an acceleration process to obtain distribution permits. This is way herbal medicine can be a complementary preventive and adjuvant therapy for COVID-19. However, this hypothesis requires experimental validation on the infection model of SARS-Cov-2 and COVID-19 patients. Many research further still need to find a specific cure for the disease by herbs, vaccines, or antivirals. Even though the number of Covid patients continues to increase in Indonesia and worldwide, but we always have any hope.

Aim: To evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of subgingivally delivered curcumin gel and hexigel as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in chronic periodontitis patients.
Materials and method:A total of 12 subjects of age 18-55years were randomly selected for the study from the Out Patient Department. A total of 36 sites with pocket depths ≥5 mm were chosen as a split mouth design at three different sites in the same patient. After scaling and root planning, in Group I -2% curcumin gel, in Group II- Chlorhexidinegel(Hexigel ) and in Group III-placebo gel (control)was placed sub-gingivally. Clinical parameters such as gingival index and plaque index were recorded at baseline, 7 days and 21 days. Pocket depth was checked at baseline, 21 and 45 days.
Results:All the groups showed statistically significant reduction in gingival, plaque indices and pocket depth. Group I(curcumin)as a local delivery agent showedcomparable results in terms of pocket depth reduction as group II (Hexigel).
Conclusion:Curcumin gel showed effective results and thus, can be used as an alternate to chlorhexidine gel in management of chronic periodontitis patient without any side effects
