ABSTRACT Helicobacter pylori infection is regarded as the causal factor of most of the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in adults and children. Isolation of H. pylori by culture is highly specific and is considered as the gold standard technique. But often H. pylori are difficult to isolate in proper culture media. Helicobacter pylori infect about half of the world population causing chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer or 175 gastric cancers. This study investigated the prevalence of H. pylori and determined the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of isolates; the molecular basis of the resistance pattern of isolates.
