Abstract

Abstract: Agricultural Landuse plays a vital role in the entire environment of the Nagaon district. Comprising of 3993 sq.km. of geographical area, the district reflects the spatiotemporal variations in agricultural landuse. In course of time the growing population stresses upon the agricultural landuse pattern of the district for fulfilling their various requirements like residence and day-to-day activities of livelihood. This interference of population and changing agricultural landuse effects the environment and the biotic ecosystem of the district, where man-animal conflict is also a common fact in some parts of the district. To achieve environmental sustainabilty, adoption of sustainable agriculture practices and enhancing agriculture productivity is highly needed. This paper examines the changing trends of agricultural landuse of Nagaon district of Assam .The attempt is to reflect the agricultural landuse change dynamics occurred due to various natural and man-made factors. For preparation of this paper, primary data are collected through questionnaires and personal visits with the local people in the field. Secondary data are collected from Govt. offices and websites.
